To our Fijian Readers!

Have you seen the interviews with Kaiafa Ledua?

They are here and here.
Kaiafa is certainly a good man that having realized that what he was doing was wrong is now trying to help the cause of Sharks.
Thank you for that.

But the phytoplankton/oxygen story is bullshit.
Please read this post and also the links at the end of the first paragraph there - in brief, there is zero evidence that any of that is true. In fact, claiming that killing Sharks affects the oxygen supply is quite ridiculous.
I don't blame Kaiafa who probably picked it up from some friend - but I'm disappointed by the folks at the Fiji Times who have been writing about Shark conservation for years and still don't know what they are talking about.
How about some real journalism = fact checking instead of just repeating other peoples' opinions?

Anyway, please don't go propagating this nonsense.
Doing so undermines your credibility and is bad conservation.

Thank you.

He heard it from that genius of shark conservation, Julie Anderson. They met on the canoes.
