Saving the Sawfishes - Global Strategy!

Click for detail - whole infographic here!

Bravo IUCN!

All Sawfishes are threatened with extinction.
And whilst some countries like the USA do a good job at protecting them and trying to re-establish critical habitat, others require urgent action.

You can read it all here.
This is excellent, impressive work and a must read for fisheries managers, researchers and conservationists alike - and for smartass anglers, too!

Kudos!

IUCN - Media Media!

Wow - and not in a good way!
Wait til Randy sees it!

Watch this.

With all due respect - this is embarrassing.
I've now watched it four times and am still distracted by the amateurish editing, horrible images and clumsiness of the narrators. The shark conservation universe is awash in incredibly talented editing outfits for whom producing this PSA, for free, would have been both an honor and an opportunity - especially considering the importance of the paper and the prestige of the authors!
Seriously, you may want to consider soliciting expressions of interest for producing a v2?

Anyway.
More when I got time to read the paper.

Congratulations Randy!

Randy doing what he does best - inspiring and mentoring young people

Great news!

Fiji TV reports that Randy Thaman is now a honorary member of IUCN.
Honorary Membership of IUCN, which recognizes outstanding services to the conservation of nature and natural resources, is presented by the World Conservation Congress, on the recommendation of the IUCN Council, to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to furthering the goals of the Union.

I've said it before, in my book, Randy is a good man.
A true all-rounder with a keen interest and profound knowledge in a large variety of disciplines, he is truly the embodiment of tireless dedication, as very much witnessed by his rather ridiculous, and undoubtedly much  shortened publication list.
You can find short laudatios here and here, and you can watch him accept the award in this short video clip.

Congratulations Randy - nobody deserves this more than you!
