Frothing with Blood!

Are those guys for real?

The carnage: two surfers got nicked at New Smyrna Beach, the Shark bite capital of the world (great recap here, kudos to whoever wrote it!).
One was treated on the beach, the other drove himself to the hospital.

And this is what The Fear Beneath made of it.
New look, same morons. I've blogged about them before.

Oh well, yesterday's feel-good piece was just too nice to last.

If you dislike the Fear Beneath so much, why do you continue to post about them? I'm sure they are encouraged by your posts.

Personally, I find their brand of alarmist rhetoric incredibly entertaining, and if it helps keep a few more people out of the water, that's fine with me, too. I seriously doubt that anyone's going out hunting sharks because of anything they've written.

Lighten up a little.

I wish I could!

One of the principal obstacles we face when engaging in Shark Conservation is the bad image they have.
Very difficult to achieve anything useful as long as people believe in the myth of the lurking people-killing monsters.

And that's exactly what such websites suggest - maybe entertaining and pop-culturesque to a few but alas, I fear that most readers will just take that crap at face value.

And I may add: contrary to any website suggesting the same about terrestrial apex predators.
I'm sure they exist but I'm quite confident that the majority will interpret them as the rantings of some lunatic whacko.

Thankfully, the image of Sharks is slowly improving and we're starting to perceive them as what they are: fascinating, threatened, indispensable - but we're not quite there yet.

Once we are, I'll be happy to lighten up, promise!
